Can An Ayurvedic Jam Enhance Your Mental Health?

If the brain behaves like a muscle, then what’s the right supplement for it?

Taking care of your mental health is not an easy task. It takes patience, focus, persistence and certain steely willingness, at the least. If you have ever dealt with any kind of mental health issue like depression, anxiety, mood swings, you know what I mean. That’s why I believe in the power of a strict “Mental Diet” which primarily means that one is constantly aware and selective about what information and thoughts the brain processes.

A mental diet has many components and a healthy diet + good lifestyle are the keys. That’s why I have been consuming Ashwagandha supplements for years since it soothes my mind.

What Is A Malt?

To be honest, I am not really sure. But the texture of the mixture is like of a jam..you know the type you smear on bread and have it for breakfast.

What Does This Malt Contain?

A hell lot of good stuff! Shankh pushpin, Brahmi, Jatamansi and Ashwagandha ( I can swear by the benefits of Ashwagandha). As for the rest:

Shankhpushpi is used as a medicinal herb and is known to:

  • Calm the nerves
  • Treating many other mental health disorders.

Nardostachys jatamansi is a herb and is known for its ability to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Improve cognitive function and sleep.
  • Improve memory
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Treat insomnia

Result

1 tbsp mixed with one glass of water, twice a day was my dosage for 3 weeks. Ideally, you should have this before meals, but due to my busy schedule, I drank my portion whenever I remembered.

And Then?

The first week there was no noticeable difference and I consumed it mechanically ( I quite liked the taste). But something changed in the second week and my sense of awareness increased, in a subtle way. My overall fatigue reduced and I was able to sleep more soundly without waking up 5 times. I felt a certain lightness and I was able to deal with every day, extenuating circumstances in a calmer way. Well, its safe to say that Ayurveda is amazing!

How knowing these four different communication styles can improve your relationships.

When I was in seventh grade, my friends and I developed a pattern of sulking, almost on a monthly rotation. We’d take turns getting upset about something relatively minor — one friend wouldn’t call when she said she would, another would flirt with that cute boy we’d all been crushing on.

Whatever the origin of the sulk, the aggrieved party would insist, “I’m not mad.” Resolving the conflict became impossible, because no one would ever admit they were angry.

I didn’t know it at the time, but that behavior is a classic example of passive-aggressive communication — and it’s an ineffective way to get your point across.

So why do some people persist in long sighs, insincere denials, and other hallmarks of passive aggression? It’s not that they’re stuck in middle school, experts say. It’s just one of the four basic communication styles: passive, passive-aggressive, aggressive, and assertive.

Our communication style can be a powerful tool in building meaningful connections with others. Though our way of communicating may vary depending on the situation and the individual, we all tend to gravitate toward one dominant mode — and sometimes get entrenched in bad habits.

Research suggests the assertive style is the healthiest and most effective, although it’s normal to use one of the other types on occasion. When communication breaks down, it’s often because of conflicting styles.

“Communicating effectively is a good way to lower the amount of stress we’re experiencing individually and collectively,” says psychologist Randy Paterson, PhD, author of The Assertiveness Workbook. “As we think about the pain in the world, think about how much stems from people feeling profoundly alienated from one another.”

Understanding your own com­munication style — and learning how to identify the types of those around you — can foster more compassion and mutual respect in your most important relationships.
